Jeremy is exactly what you expect a venture capitalist to be. He is a shark. You are either his home run hitter and he gives you all of the attention in the world, or you strike out and he stops caring or giving you the time of day. Jeremy doesn't care about anything other than making money and getting a return on his investment. The moment you make a mistake, you will get passed off to a junior partner and Jeremy writes your business off. He truly believes businesses will either be a unicorn or need to die, there is no middle ground. With Jeremy, he forced us to pass on life-changing acquisitions for the founding team, because the purchase price didn't return the exit Jeremy wanted. I respect that, it's his right, but it is in his best interest, not the founders. Would I take money again? Maybe. But I wish I knew what I was getting into before taking his money. Is he good at his job? Yes. Does he care about his founders? Only if you hit home runs every quarter, the moment you stop hitting a home run, you are dead to him. Will he follow on invest? Maybe, if you hit it out the park, but if not they will try to bring in a Series B firm and make your business their problem. As long as you know what you are getting into, take his money, but if you want a VC to coach you and mentor you and help you build a business, Jeremy is not your guy. If you know how to drive the bus with your eyes closed - he is your best friend, if you don't - run away.

Took the call and seemed more concerned moving around his house than listening to the pitch. Claimed what we were doing was the perfect sweet spot, but his questions weren’t great, and he certainly wasn’t prepared. I won’t go into the detail but a lot of people were involved in this conversation and all confirmed that this investment was a no brainer. Matt took all our info, ghosted is for a while, resurfaced, said things were positive with his partners, took more info, ghosted. Came back with a no, with no reason. I find out way down the line that he had shared everything with a competitor. In the interim I did give Matt the benefit of the doubt and introduced him to another founder, and she had the same experience. Commerce ventures as a firm have an amazing reputation, unfortunately Matt is one shady customer.
